—Exodus 5:10-21
by: J. Gabriel Alegre.
The people of Israel, already oppressed by slavery had another problem to contend with: making the same quota of bricks without having the Egyptians provide the straw. In fact, they were to gather their own straw on top of their regular duties. An already bad situation became worse. The people of Israel took their frustrations out on Moses and Aaron, perceiving that they were responsible for their new affliction. Yet, we know that Moses’ intended to fulfill the duty set before him by God, not cause further oppression.
At times, when we become overwhelmed with a situation, we misdirect our feelings of angst and frustration, hurting those who are trying to lend a hand or to be a support.
