—Exodus 14:15-25, 30
by: J. Gabriel Alegre.
In the face of a ferocious onslaught by the Egyptian army, Moses took the cries of the Israelites straight to God. But what an interesting response from God: “Why do you cry to me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.” This is interesting on two fronts. Firstly, God had already granted Moses some power by way of the rod which he held in his hand (which had earlier performed miracles before Pharaoh). Secondly, God instructed them to go forwards, heading straight into the Red sea. At times, we are very quick to be overwhelmed by situations which appear to be out of control, and we are quick to forget that God has already empowered us with a portion of his Spirit and a measure of faith. We have already become overcomers through his son Jesus Christ!
