—John 13:1-5

Although foot washing was typical in Bible times, it was not a task fitting of a king. Right before the passage describes Jesus washing the disciples' feet, it speaks of his knowing that God had put all things under his power. There was no question in Jesus' mind of who he was or of his greatness. Still, Jesus humbled himself and washed the feet of his followers. There are times when we all feel we are too "good" for a given task. There are many jobs that need to be done in the body of Christ. Some are not desirable or pleasant, yet they need to be done. Like Jesus, we need to serve with a willing and joyful heart.
