—Luke 1:14-20
by: Andrew J. Camenga.
Disbelief flooded the mind of Zechariah. The announcement of the angel was completely contrary to his expectation of the work of God in the world. He could see the "realities" of human potential as a significant barrier to the plan God had announced. When he responded to the angel, he mentioned the most obvious problem and asked for assurance that the words of the angel were true.
God gave a tangible sign. The angel announced that sign. Zechariah lived with personal silence until his son was born and named. Do we-in the presence of the promises of God-long for a tangible reality? Are we ready for the method God might choose to help dispel our disbelief?
