—Luke 1:21-25
by: Andrew J. Camenga.
The sign that God first promised Zechariah became real. In retrospect, he may have realized that a little patience would have provided an incredibly tangible sign without the need to ask for yet another. But he wanted proof right away. This passage does not tell us about Elizabeth's first reaction to the news shared by her husband. What we do see is that Elizabeth chose to keep to herself and rejoice as the reality of the promise of God became clearer and clearer, day after day. Her words imply a thanksgiving for the action of God in her life.
Oh Lord, thank you for faith. Let me live in the reality of your promises and rejoice-whether I have tangible, shareable proof or not.
