Naming a child is a big thing. Many parents take the act of naming their child as an incredibly important step. Publishers make money on books that track the popularity and meaning of names. Naming is taken seriously because the given name can help or hinder child and adult alike. Yet, most of the time the initial name is the parents' free choice.
For Zechariah and Elizabeth, choosing the name for their son was not a simple matter of their choice and preference-it was a requirement for obedience.
In the big things and in the small things, Lord, let us hear your direction and your commands and help us to walk in utter obedience.
