—Genesis 29:13-20

Jacob has no dowry with him, such as was paid for his mother Rebekah. In place of a dowry he agrees to work as a servant for seven years. Many would grumble and complain about this length of time. Or they might want payment before the end of the agreed upon 7 years. The Bible says this time seemed as only a day to him because of his love for Rachel. As Christians we are asked to be servants both in the body of Christ and to non-believers as well. This is not to be done out of duty, but out of our great love of God and our desire to be obedient and to please him. When love is the focus of service, there is no room for complaints or bargaining.
