—Genesis 32:13-21

When we place a concern in God’s hands, we also have to leave it there. I can’t even count the numerous times I have gone to God in prayer for a concern and then gone back and tried to figure out my own solution. Jacob’s prayer in the previous section sounds good. However he has convinced himself that Esau continues to be angry. Instead of trusting God to change Esau’s heart, he tries to use his possessions as a means to appease Esau. Our gifts and attempts can never truly change another’s heart. We have to be willing to put them in God’s hands and allow his touch to work in their lives.
